The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has unveiled a plan to provide 20,000 e-bikes to students on affordable installments.
Lahore - The Punjab government has announced a scheme to provide 20,000 e-bikes to students on easy installments, as part of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz's initiative to prioritize youth empowerment.
As the country's first female Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz emphasized that both fuel-powered and electric bikes would assist students in their daily commuting needs.
In light of the escalating prices of bikes, the government has introduced this offer, allowing students to acquire a bike with a down payment of Rs25,000, with monthly installments of less than Rs5,000.
The distribution of these bikes is set to commence in May 2024. Additionally, a separate scheme will be launched to provide bikes to high-achieving students.
This decision to facilitate students with bikes on easy installments came in response to a request from former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who urged the Punjab government to increase the number of bikes and ensure affordability of monthly installments.
The government aims to distribute the motorcycles among students through a draw, in collaboration with the Bank of Punjab.
