Demi Lovato is opening up about her experience as a child star.
The 32-year-old singer during her appearance at the Teen Vogue Summit on Saturday candidly shared to People that working on her documentary Child Star was a "healing" experience.
"The whole journey was really healing for me. Honoring the truth of my inner child was really healing for me," Lovato told the outlet.
She went on to say, "Going back and acknowledging my struggles was honoring my inner child and holding space for my younger self... that didn't get to live a normal childhood in my younger years."
The Child Star showed Lovato and other child actors including Alyson Stoner, Drew Barrymore, Kenan Thompson, and Raven-Symoné sitting together and discussing their experience of starting their acting career at a very young age.
The documentary also marked Lovato's directional debut.
"It really created a sense of community and it made us feel less alone to share our experiences, even though we may have felt so isolated in them," the La La Land singer said, adding, "So I think being able to talk to the participants of the film really was encouraging and therapeutic for me."
It is pertinent to mention that Lovato first started her career in the entertainment world with 2002’s Barney and Friends following her breakthrough role in the movie Camp Rock.
