Ridley Scott seems to be moving pretty fast with the Gladiator franchise.
The filmmaker revealed that even before the release of Gladiator II, which will happen 24 years after the original movie hit the big screen, he has already gotten pretty ahead with a script for a third instalment.
“I’ve already got eight pages. I’ve got the beginning of a very good footprint,” Scott told Total Film about Gladiator III.
Scott also said, “If there’s a Gladiator 3, I don’t think you’d ever go back into the arena. But I had to go back into the arena…”
The Oscar-nominated director has previously teased a potential third movie in the Gladiator franchise as well. In a conversation with the French magazine Premiere, Scott revealed that he was “toying with the idea of Gladiator 3.”
“No, seriously! I’ve lit the fuse…” he told the outlet. “The ending of Gladiator II is reminiscent of The Godfather, with Michael Corleone finding himself with a job he didn’t want, and wondering, ‘Now, Father, what do I do?’ So the next [film] will be about a man who doesn’t want to be where he is.”
