TikTok has informed the Peshawar High Court (PHC) that it has provided the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) with a special portal to remove offensive content, according to a letter addressed to the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court.
The letter from the social media platform was in response to a petition filed for the app's ban due to alleged offensive content being uploaded. TikTok stated that it had received reports of such content and clarified its strict policy against offensive material in Pakistan.
TikTok emphasised that it takes the issue of offensive content seriously and has implemented a dedicated portal for the PTA to report and block such material.
The company noted that it has blocked reported offensive content through this portal and highlighted that the PTA has not recently reported any offensive material.
Following news reports, TikTok proactively requested the PTA to report any offensive content through the provided portal. The company has yet to decide on its participation in the ongoing court proceedings but assured that it complies with local laws regarding offensive content.
TikTok reiterated its commitment to upholding local regulations and maintaining a safe platform for its users in Pakistan.
