Google has unveiled two new initiatives aimed at enhancing Pakistan's gaming and app development sector, as reported by APP. These programs, named the Game Design Masterclass and Google Ads Academy, are designed to help local developers create top-tier games and applications.

The launch took place at the Think Apps 2024 event in Lahore on Wednesday, which attracted nearly 350 developers from across Pakistan, alongside global industry leaders.

The Game Design Masterclass and Google Ads Academy will be rolled out across major Pakistani cities over the next six months. This initiative is part of a broader effort to empower developers to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) for driving innovation and growth within the country’s burgeoning app industry.

Farhan Qureshi, Google’s Director for Pakistan, emphasised the significant potential of Pakistan’s app and gaming industry. He highlighted the success of local studios such as Vyro, AI, Hazel Mobile, Games District, GeniTeam, and Finz Games, which are making a mark on the global stage with millions of daily downloads and substantial job creation.

According to a recent report by Access Partnership, Pakistan’s gaming and app sector could see a revenue increase of $6.6 billion annually by 2030, driven by a focus on digital exports.

The industry has already demonstrated impressive growth, with a 32 percent compound annual growth rate in global downloads of Pakistani-made apps from 2018 to 2023. Despite a slight dip in overall app downloads in 2023, in-app purchase revenue surged by 50%, placing Pakistan 17th globally.

Qureshi noted that the company’s goal is to support Pakistani developers in building exceptional games and apps, driving profitability, and fostering sustainable businesses. By providing access to AI-powered tools and resources, Google aims to boost the country’s digital economy and create high-value employment opportunities.

So far, Google’s various programs have engaged over 800 participants. The company has also conducted offline hackathons in Lahore and Islamabad and is strengthening connections with global industry leaders through key events like the Google Developer Conference and APAC’s App Summit.
