LAHORE: A video clip linked to the alleged “honey trap” scandal involving playwright Khalilur Rehman Qamar hit social media, showing the perpetrators setting the trap and testing a camera to ensure the best view of the rendezvous.
Video shows, the prime suspects, Urooj and Hasan Shah, casually idling on the same couch where Qamar sat next to the femme fatale, who baited him to her home late on the night of July 15. The pretext was to hash out a new soap opera project, which never came under discussion.
Allegedly, minutes after Qamar settled down with Urooj in her cosy living room, armed men stormed in, beat him up, and then took him on a long drive during which they stripped him of his valuables and cash.
After getting what they wanted, his abductors kicked the screenwriter out of their car in the middle of nowhere and drove off.
Following Qamar's complaint, the Organised Crime Unit (OCU) of Model Town apprehended 12 suspects, including Urooj, one of the prime suspects.
The first information report (FIR) — under PPC's Sections 395 (punishment for dacoity) and 365 (Kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine a person) — was filed on July 21, nearly a week after the whole ordeal.
Urooj and 11 others are currently placed on remand as the police investigate the case. The alleged mastermind of the honey-trap scandal was arrested on Tuesday.
"The gang's mastermind, Hasan, has been arrested along with his accomplice. He and his partner, Rafiq, were arrested from Peshawar," an official told Geo News, adding that the suspect had also made an "objectionable" video of the playwright viral.
The aforementioned viral video related to the Qamar honey trap scandal left social media disgusted.
The clip seems to have laid bare another shocking side of the man who rose to notoriety for his misogynistic language against critics, mostly women, of his soap "Mere Pass Tum Ho" some years ago.
