Jennifer Lopez just turned 55 and, of course, did it in a way only JLo can—by throwing a Bridgerton-themed extravaganza in the Hamptons that probably had Regency ghosts rolling their eyes. The highlight? A jaw-dropping gown from popular Indian designer Manish Malhotra, who clearly decided that more is more.
The designer took to Instagram to flaunt the Herculean task behind the gown. It was an off-shoulder number with a skirt so voluminous it could’ve had its own zip code. And let’s talk about the labour: over 40 artisans worked tirelessly for 3,490 hours. Yes, you read that right. 3,490 hours. That's more time than it takes to binge-watch the entire Bridgerton series, twice. But the main attraction? A floral motif painstakingly crafted by hand from sequins and over half a million crystals.
In his post, the designer shared an illustration of the gown and stated, “An honour to dress the iconic JLo for her birthday with the fun Bridgerton theme.” He later added, “Petal and tiny-shaped metal sequins were especially treated to preserve their hue to craft this ensemble, a celebration of intricate artistry and Indian craftsmanship.”
While Bridgerton is all about the Regency era, Malhotra decided to throw in a modern twist—a knee-high slit. JLo paired this sparkling spectacle with elegant jewellery, a dainty pendant and stud earrings. Meshed gloves added a touch of old-school drama, and her hair, coiffed into a sophisticated bun with elaborate headgear, made sure not a strand was out of place. Chunky, shiny heels finished off the look, making sure she was a beacon of glamour from head to toe.
The On The Floor singer, in true superstar fashion, changed into a second outfit halfway through the festivities. She rocked a green Ellie Saab gown that once again stayed true to the time period and also gave major “forest fairy” vibes.
The party itself, was a spectacle of vibrant colours and rich decor, dragging guests into the world of the Ton. JLo shared a video online, giving her fans a peek at the over-the-top festivities, complete with music, dancing, and more merriment than you can shake a Regency era fan at. Notably absent, though, was her husband, Ben Affleck, who apparently decided to sit this one out, fuelling rumours of unrest in the marriage.
