Mumbai-based travel influencer Aanvi Kamdar, 27, tragically lost her life after falling into a gorge while filming an Instagram Reel at Maharashtra's Kumbhe waterfall on Tuesday.
Kamdar, a chartered accountant renowned for her travel blog @theglocaljournal, was visiting the site with seven friends, according to Indian media reports.
During the video shoot, she slipped and plummeted approximately 300 feet into the gorge, according to a local police station official. Her friends quickly alerted local authorities, initiating a rapid response from the Coast Guard, Kolad rescue team, and Maharashtra State Electricity Board staff, another report stated.
A rescuer recounted the challenging conditions at the scene: "Upon arrival, we discovered the victim had fallen nearly 300-350 feet. The heavy rain and her injuries complicated the extraction, which necessitated a vertical pulley system."
The rescue operation, hindered by continuous rockfall, lasted six hours. Despite the efforts, Kamdar succumbed to her severe injuries at the nearby local hospital, the police official confirmed.
Following the incident, authorities have issued a warning urging heightened caution for tourists visiting waterfalls during the monsoon season.
