Bollywood actor Sushmita Sen left her fans intrigued and confused in equal measure when she mentioned her “second date of birth” in her Instagram account bio last weekend. The date of birth was February 27, 2023. According to reports from Hindustan Times, the actor clarified that this date marks the day she suffered a massive heart attack, describing those 45 minutes as the most challenging moments of her life.

On National Doctors’ Day, Sushmita shared the reason behind this update by posting a heartfelt video on her Instagram captioned, “Our first birth date is the day we are born. But countless people among us have had a second chance at life, all thanks to a doctor."

In the video, which was part of a Doctors’ Day initiative by Sun Pharma, the Main Hoon Na actor recounted the harrowing experience. She said, “My life is a story which I have played and lived. There was a major twist in my life story sometime back. The point was when I suffered a massive heart attack. They were the longest 45 minutes of my life. There was a moment when I thought my story was over."

She continued, “But thanks to my doctors, they are the reason my story is still on. They didn’t give up on me and didn’t let me give up. They wrote a new story for my life and gave me a new direction. That was my second birthday. I am dedicating that day and my story to all the doctors.”

The actor also expressed her deep gratitude to the medical professionals who saved her life. Reflecting on her ordeal, she said, “Today is a day of gratitude. My doctors have given me a second chance at life, and I want to thank them from the top, middle and bottom of my heart.” The actor also shared a link on her IG Story for how to register for a second birth certificate.

Sushmita suffered the heart attack while shooting for her Disney+ Hotstar show Aarya in Jaipur. After taking a hiatus from acting, she made her comeback with this crime action-thriller series, co-created by Ram Madhavani and Sandeep Modi, marking her debut in the OTT space. She later featured in the social biographical-drama series Taali, directed by Ravi Jadhav.
