KARACHI: After being promised an artificial leg, the wounded camel, who was shifted to Karachi from Sanghar for treatment, is set to stand up for the first time since having her leg brutally chopped off allegedly by a landlord and his employees earlier this month.

After the gruesome incident, the camel was shifted to CDRS Benji, a local non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Karachi, where she has been under treatment.

Director CDRS Benji Project for Animal Welfare Sarah Jahangir told Geo.tv that the camel would get an artificial leg once her injury fully heals. She also revealed that the animal has made significant progress in her treatment.

A team from Bioniks Pakistan, a prosthetics manufacturing company overlooking the preparation of the camel's artificial limb, said that they have set up a structure with a harness to help the camel stand up today.

"We will try to get Cammie to stand up with the help of the structure by this evening," the team said Thursday.

The management of the NGO also expressed their gratitude to the Department of Livestock and Bioniks Pakistan for their support in the treatment of the wounded camel's leg.

Six suspects, who had allegedly chopped off the animal's leg on June 14 in the Mundh Jamrao area, are in the custody of the law enforcers, with their trial underway at a local court.

How will the wounded camel stand up?

Detailing their upcoming attempt to get the camel to stand up, the team explained that a harness had been attached to the top of the support structure.

This harness, hanging from the top, will be wrapped around her to help her stay up.
